PAL – People Assisting Learners

§        Would you like to make a difference in a student's life?

§        Do you have 45 minutes a week?

§        Then consider becoming a PAL Volunteer Tutor!

PAL is a tutoring program at Pride where volunteers work with 1 or 2 students to help them understand math concepts or to improve reading and writing skills. Tutoring sessions are once a week, on a scheduled day and time, and no more than 45 minutes in duration.  Each session is designed to reinforce what the student is working on in their class.  Tutors help students to enjoy learning and increase their self-esteem by taking a personal interest in them.  This is a great opportunity to build relationships with Pride teachers and students, who are always excited to receive the extra help!

As a tutor, you will be assigned to a teacher who will provide you with materials and instruction on what to cover during each session.  You do not need to have a teaching background, just a love for children and learning.  Tutoring will begin the last week in September and continue throughout the school year.

We are currently in the process of matching volunteers with teacher requests, so if you are thinking about volunteering at Pride, please consider becoming part of this wonderful school-wide program.

Please know that by working with just one student, you are also supporting:

§        The student’s teacher - by giving that one-on-one time they cannot.

§        The student’s classmates - you are helping the student feel more productive and worthy, therefore making them a happier classmate.

§        The entire school - school morale is lifted by the on-going demonstration of volunteerism!
